The light in Nyhavn, Copenhagen does something special just before the sun drops. The painted houses turn warmer, the sky softens into lilac and peach, and the water starts to shimmer. This painting is all about that hour.
I wanted the colour to feel like the moment itself: the blue, coral and ochre of the harbour houses, pink umbrellas lined up along the quay, and a sailboat resting on glittering water. It’s a scene that makes you want to pull up a chair, order something cold and stay until the light fades.
It’s always golden hour somewhere, isn’t it?
