Hi, I’m Anne,
I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember. I sold my first piece of art to my art teacher at age 14 — something I still think about now, as it quietly set me on this path.
Originally trained in fashion design, I developed a strong understanding of form, balance and detail, although over time my work has become far more intuitive and expressive. These days I’m much more interested in atmosphere, feeling and the energy a piece carries than perfection.
Colour has always been instinctive for me. I’ve naturally gravitated toward strong, expressive palettes balanced with areas of calm — a place for the eye to rest.
Life in Far North Australia has shaped a lot of how I see. The light is intense, the colours after rain feel heightened, and the ocean shifts endlessly between blues and greens. Those impressions stay with you.
Painting is where everything settles for me. I rarely begin with a fixed plan — often just a feeling, a colour palette or a loose idea. From there it becomes a process of layering, stepping back, adjusting and responding to what’s happening in front of me. It can be frustrating, exciting and completely absorbing all at once, which is probably why I love it so much.
Travel has always been an important part of my life and our family life. I’m drawn to the feeling of different places — the light, atmosphere, architecture, colours and rhythm of everyday life. Often it’s not the obvious things I remember most, but small moments and impressions that stay with me long afterwards and quietly influence the mood, palette and energy of my work.
My paintings are held in private residential and corporate collections in Australia, the USA, the UK and Europe.
Owning original art helps create a special feeling within a home — an expression of personality and something that can be lived with and enjoyed for many years. I think art also offers a gentle distraction from the world we live in — a world that can often feel hectic, fast-moving and time poor.
