At fourteen, I sold my first painting to my art teacher. She came to me — I didn't go to her. It was a Chinese-style landscape, and she loved it enough to want it on her wall. I've thought about that moment many times since. It quietly set something in motion.

A career in fashion design came first — I graduated from RMIT University in Melbourne, lectured there, and went on to run my own fashion businesses in corporate and children's wear. Then came ten years in jewellery, building a business with my daughters across Australia and the US. Somewhere in all of that, painting kept pulling me back.

These days it's where everything settles.

I split my time between Far North Queensland, London, Arizona and Spain — and honestly, that probably explains the work better than anything else I could say. The light and heavy air in Queensland after the rain. The architecture and energy of London. The colours of Andalusia. These things get into your palette whether you plan it or not.

My paintings are held in private collections in London, Chicago, Melbourne, Phoenix and Spain, and in corporate collections across the UK and US.

I paint because I can't not. I usually begin with a clear image in mind — for my portraits especially, I spend time finding the right reference, the right expression, the right moment. The face has to say something. Pretty isn't enough — there has to be feeling in it, a sense that something is happening just behind the eyes. From there the canvas takes over, and the painting becomes its own conversation. Unpredictable, absorbing, and occasionally surprising — even to me.
