Growing up in Melbourne — home to the largest Greek community outside Greece itself — Greece had always felt like unfinished business.

When we finally got there, we stayed on Paros near a small fishing village called Naoussa, away from the heavy tourist crowds. The streets were winding and worn. Cats everywhere. A table set for two outside every doorway.

Oh, and the food. Some of the best food I’ve ever eaten.

I took this photograph myself. That deep blue door. The Greek flag. And that arch — which I later discovered wasn't flowers at all. Dried chillies.

When I painted it I was back there. Sea breeze on my face. Nowhere to be. Nothing to do but meander.
